About Genesis: (this is a very brief history and my have errors)

There was a school in Surrey, England named Charterhouse. Attending this school there were two students named Tony Banks and Peter Gabriel. The two both had a love for music which caused them to form a band called The Garden Wall.

A nearby group named The Anon. Formed by Riverz Job (bass), Richard MacPhail (vocals), Anthony Phillips (guitar), and Rob Tyrell (drums). Later join by Mike Rutherford, The Anon was The Garden Wall's main competition.

The Charterhouse arranged a concert in 1967 that featured both The Garden Wall and The Anon. The Garden Wall stole the show away from The Anon (who were the concert's main feature. After this more than half The Anon left the band leaving Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford. Phillips and Rutherford went to their rivals and formed a new band. They later were joined by drummer Chris Stewart.

This new band put together a demo tape which they sent to producer Jonathan King (who was an ex-student of The Charterhouse). He liked this band's music so much and since they didn't have a name yet he gave them one: Genesis

In 1968 Stewart left Genesis. John Silver came in as Stewart's replacement

In 1969 they released their first album titled 'From Genesis To Revelation'. The album was only released in the UK. To put it nicely, the album was a bomb. It sold less then seven hundred copies. Part of the album's lack of success can be contributed to the fact that the album was thought to be Christian.

After this, Genesis went inactive in order to get out of it's one year contract with King (who thought their new music lacked). After a year, Genesis was free of King and Silver (who wanted to stay with King).

In March of 1970, Genesis met John Anthony who signed them with Charisma-Records.

Genesis's first album with John Anthony and new drummer John Mayhew was 'Trespass'. Phillips and Mayhew left the band after this album. Phillips left because of his bronchitis and Mayhew was kicked out for not being creative. It was also during the touring of this album that Peter Gabriel jumped off stage and broke his leg. Despite the injury, Gabriel continued the tour. 'Trespass' was the first Genesis album released in the US.

To replace Mayhew and Phillips, Genesis hired a new guitarist, Mick Barnard, and a new drummer, Phil Collins. Barnard didn't stay with the band long though. Barnard was replaced with Steve Hackett. In 1971, the new line-up released the album 'Nursery Cryme'.

In 1972, Genesis released their fourth album. Titled 'Foxtrot', the album contained the Genesis classic "Supper's Ready". The song was twenty-odd minutes long and took up the entire second half of the album.

'Genesis Live' was the title of the band's next album. Released in 1973, it was the band's first live album. Later that same year, Genesis released 'Selling England By The Pound'. This album contained the hit "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)", which made it to number twenty-one in the UK charts.

Genesis's seventh album was titled 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway'. It was a double volume concept album about a street punk named Rael. To promote this album, Genesis did a six month world tour that had over one hundred shows. All these concerts were expensive and actually left Genesis in a debt of about 200 pounds. Afterthe tour, Peter Gabriel left the band.

Since Peter Gabriel left, Phil Collins took over the lead vocal work on Genesis as well as continuing his drum work for the group. The first Genesis album that had Phil Collins performing lead vocals was 'A Trick Of The Tail'. This album was released in 1976.

In 1977, Genesis released two albums. The first was 'Wind & Wuthering'. Released very early in 1977, 'Wind & Wuthering' contained many tracks including the Genesis classic "One For The Vine". It Also had the track "Your Own Special Way" which was Genesis's first charted US hit. The second album was 'Seconds Out'. 'Seconds Out' was the band's second live album. It was also during the mixing of 'Seconds Out', that Steve Hackett left the group.

'...And Then There Were Three...' was the title of the band's eleventh album. Released in 1978, the album contained the hit "Follow You Follow Me" which made it to number seven on the Uk pop rock charts.

The band released 'Duke' in 1980. This album was recorded in ABBA's studio and contained the smash hits "Misunderstanding" and "Turn It On Again". "Misunderstanding' was the first song that Phil Collins had written for the group. "Turn It On Again" was a huge hit at the band's concerts and was played at every Genesis concert that had Collins performing lead vocals.

In 1981, Genesis received their own recording studio, which was called The Farm. 'Abacab' was the first album recorded in the studio. In fact, the album was recorded before the studio had even completed construction. The song "Abacab" went numder one in the UK and made it as a US top ten hit.

The band released their third live album in 1982. Titled 'Three Sides Live', the album contained the work of guest performers Daryl Stuermer, Chester Thomson, and Steve Hackett.

The band made a self-titled album in 1983. This album contained the hits "Mama", "That's All", "Home By The Sea", and "Illegal Alien".

Then in 1986, Genesis released the album 'Invisible Touch'. This album contained the band's first number one hit, "Invisible Touch". It also had the top five hits "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight", "Land Of Confusion", "In Too Deep", and "Throwing It All Away". "Throwing It All Away" became the band's second number one hit.

After a five year break, Genesis released their seventeenth album in 1991. Titled 'We Can't Dance', the album contained the top ten hits "No Son Of Mine" and "I Can't Dance".

The next year, Genesis released their fourth album, 'The Way We Walk Volume One: The Shorts'. In the next year, Genesis released 'The Way We Walk The Volume Two: The Longs'.

In 1996 Phil Collins left the group. This left an opening for a new lead singer and drummer in the group. Ray Wilson was chosen to become the new lead vocalist. The album was titled '...Calling All Stations...' and was released in 1997. It used the Genesis and session drummers Nick D'Virgilio and Nir Zidkyahu.

In 1998, Genesis released the album 'Archive 1967-75'. The line up for this album was Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips, Mike Rutherford, and John Silver. The album focused the the years 1967-75 and contained a complete version of 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' live as well as many b-side songs.
